    FEPSGA 2025 Opens in Yola, Highlights Unity in Public Service

    The 44th Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA) officially opened on Thursday in Yola, Adamawa State, with calls for unity, collaboration, and renewed synergy across Nigeria’s public service.

    Declaring the Games open, Deputy Governor Kaletapwa Farauta said the event underscores Adamawa’s capacity to host national tournaments and its commitment to using sports for economic growth and youth engagement.

    “Sports remain one of the strongest tools for integration, peace, and collective progress,” Farauta said.

    FEPSGA President, Aloku Amaebi, commended the Adamawa State Government for hosting one of the country’s largest multi-sport gatherings, describing it as a testament to the resilience of Nigeria’s public servants and the improved security situation in the North-East.

    “This hosting is symbolic—it shows that the North-East is open, safe, and ready for national events,” Amaebi said.

    Over the next three days, athletes from 84 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) will compete in 16 sports including football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, and badminton.

    The Ministry of Works won the march-past event, followed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

    Head of Service and Local Organising Committee Chairman, Abubakar Shehu, said more than 10,000 athletes are participating, adding that the Games would foster national unity and stronger public service bonds.

    Tinubu Nominates Gen. Christopher Musa as New Minister of Defence

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

    In a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu announced the appointment of General Musa as the successor to Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned from the position on Monday.

    General Musa, 58, who was born on December 25, 1967, is a distinguished military officer who served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 until October 2025.

    He is a recipient of the prestigious Colin Powell Award for Soldiering (2012).

    Born in Sokoto, General Musa attended primary and secondary schools in the state before proceeding to the College of Advanced Studies, Zaria.

    He graduated in 1986 and enrolled at the Nigerian Defence Academy the same year, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991.

    Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1991, Musa has held several key positions in the Nigerian Army, including:

    • General Staff Officer 1, Training/Operations, HQ 81 Division
    • Commanding Officer, 73 Battalion
    • Assistant Director, Operational Requirements, Department of Army Policy and Plans
    • Infantry Representative and Member, Training Team, HQ Nigerian Army Armour Corps

    He later served as Deputy Chief of Staff (Training/Operations) at the Infantry Centre and Corps Headquarters, and as Commander of Sector 3, Operation Lafiya Dole, and the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Region.

    In 2021, Musa was appointed Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, and later became Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps before being elevated to Chief of Defence Staff by President Tinubu in 2023.

    In his letter to the Senate, President Tinubu expressed confidence in General Musa’s capacity to lead the Ministry of Defence and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.

    President expresses relief as freed girls reunite with authorities; vows increased security in vulnerable areas

    Abuja, November 25, 2025: President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the release of the 24 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists from the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on November 17.

    In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed relief that the girls, who were kidnapped shortly after a military detachment left the school premises, had been safely reunited with the authorities.

    Tinubu noted that the Kebbi abduction appeared to have triggered similar incidents in Eruku, Kwara State, and Papiri, Niger State.

    According to reports, all 38 victims abducted in Eruku were released on Sunday, while the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State confirmed that 50 missing students from a Catholic school in the state had also returned home.

    Commending the security agencies for their sustained efforts, the President urged them to intensify operations to rescue those still in captivity.

    “I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must, as a matter of urgency, put more boots on the ground in vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping,” Tinubu said.

    “My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this,” he vowed.

    Abuja — The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has inaugurated the first Community of Practice (COP) for Commissioners of Women Affairs, marking a significant step toward advancing gender equality.

    Director, Media & Strategic Communications, the the programme is also targeted at women’s empowerment, and inclusive governance across the country.

    NGF Chairman and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, described the initiative as “a turning point in Nigeria’s commitment to women and girls.”

    “Our collective efforts have brought together dedication, resources, and strategic initiatives to make gender inclusion an essential part of governance and development at all levels,” AbdulRazaq said.

    He announced the creation of a Gender Affairs Department at the NGF Secretariat and unveiled the Gender Equality and Women’s Economic Empowerment Strategic Plan (2025–2029), aligned with the National Gender Policy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    AbdulRazaq also said the Nigeria for Women Programme, initially piloted in six states, has expanded to 31 states, with Kaduna, Kwara, and Lagos leading in the adoption of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy.

    “This Community of Practice will empower commissioners, gender advocates, and technical experts to collaborate, share best practices, and drive action on economic inclusion, political participation, and protection from gender-based violence,” he added.


    Forum Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Inclusion

    Declaring the platform open, NGF Director General, Dr. Abdulateef Shittu, said gender equity remains a core driver of development and inclusive governance.

    “Collaboration, not isolation, is the gateway to real progress. States are doing incredible work, but exchanging lessons, aligning strategies, and building a unified voice will accelerate the impact across the country,” Shittu said.

    He noted that the COP would promote shared learning, accountability, and long-term coordination among states. Shittu also commended the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other partners for supporting the Forum’s vision.


    Commissioners Pledge Joint Action

    Dean of Commissioners of Women Affairs and Commissioner for Cross River State, Hon. Edema Irom, described the inauguration as “historic and timely.”

    She said the commissioners would focus on five key priorities: full domestication of the National Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy, stronger coordination with national and development partners, increased representation of women in leadership, expansion of the Nigeria for Women Project, and peer learning through the COP.

    “Progress for women and girls is inseparable from the nation’s growth. The commitments made today represent a strong start toward a more inclusive future where women’s participation and potential are fully recognized,” she said.


    NGF Outlines Gender Affairs Vision

    NGF Director of Gender Affairs, Barrister Hauwa Haliru, said the COP would enhance collaboration and policy coherence across all states.

    She said the platform would facilitate the exchange of best practices, promote stakeholder engagement, organize training sessions, and develop joint monitoring frameworks for gender policies.

    “The COP connects commissioners, leverages shared expertise, and amplifies collective influence for measurable gender outcomes,” Haliru said.

    She added that quarterly review meetings, state mentoring, and rapid response task teams will help commissioners address policy and operational challenges promptly.
