Kwankwaso, key party leaders in attendance as NNPP holds 7th NEC meeting

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is currently hosting its 7th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the Bolingo Hotel in Abuja, gathering major party leaders and stakeholders.
Among the notable figures present are the national leader and former presidential candidate of the party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and his vice-presidential running mate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa.
Also in attendance are the party’s national chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC), alongside other prominent party officials.
The meeting is expected to discuss crucial matters concerning the future of the party, particularly its strategy and direction in the current political climate.
This NEC meeting comes at a time of reflection and reorganization for the NNPP, following its participation in the 2023 general elections, where it emerged as a significant force by winning Kano state.
The party’s leadership will likely focus on reviewing its electoral performance, formulating policies to strengthen its influence, and addressing the future role of the NNPP in Nigerian politics.
  • Adamawa Governor Fintiri Joins Wike’s G-5 Faction, Storms Port Harcourt

Nigeria’s former ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party appears to sink deeper into crisis as Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri seems to have joined the G-5 faction of the party led by former Rivers State Governor and current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Earlier today, Saturday, Fintiri, alongside Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other former G-5 members, attended a grand reception hosted by the Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress in honour of Wike.

This development comes on the heels of Fintiri’s public endorsement of Ambassador Umar Damagun as the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a close ally of Wike.

The endorsement was made amid internal discord and criticism directed at the current National Working Committee of the party.

Notedly, Fintiri and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are from the same state. Atiku is opposed to the continued chairmanship of Damagum.

The G-5 group, self-styled as the Integrity Group, comprised five governors from the PDP who refused to support Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, in the 2023 election.

Their stance was rooted in the belief that the presidency should rotate from the north to the south, promoting inclusivity and a rotational presidency.

The group initially had Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers State) as members.

  • 1,331 Ganduje’s kinsmen dump APC for NNPP

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Thursday lost 1,331 members of his party to the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party in his hometown in Kano.

The defectors, who are mainly from 11 wards of Ganduje’s Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State vowed to work against the return of APC in the state.

Prominent among the former APC leaders, who have now embraced NNPP include the former Vice Chairman of the local government, Malam Isyaku Dahiru Kwa; former state House of Assembly aspirant, Audu Magaji Tumfafi and Bashir Musa Sani, APC Youth Leader for Takai Organisation, among others.

Receiving the decampees to the ruling party at a grand reception held at Dawakin-Tofa, the State Chairman of NNPP, Hashimu Dungurawa, applauded the ingenuity of the Ganduje’s kinsmen to APC.

Earlier, one of the leaders of the decampees, Isyaku Dahiru Kwa, cited Ganduje’s inability to develop the local government during his eight years tenure as the major reason for their decision.

Dungurawa declared that NNPP under the leadership of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is committed to entrench socio-econonic and infrastructural development in Kano.

While assuring the new members of equal opportunity within the party caucus, Dungurawa dispelled the rumour of mass defection of NNPP members to APC.

He maintained that NNPP is not losing grip of control of its party structure across the political wards, describing those aligning with APC as 419 struggling to collect their share of national cake from their recruiters.

  • Kwara LG Elections: Its a shame – Saraki

Kwara LG Elections: Its a shame – Saraki

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has stated that it is a shame that the 16 local government areas in Kwara State now have chairmen and councilors who would be in office without legitimacy and people’s mandate.

He said this while reacting to the announcement by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) declaring the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winners of the local government elections held in the state.

The chairman of the KWSIEC, Baba Okanla, who announced the results, said APC won all 16 local government area chairmanship positions and secured all 193 councillorship seats.

Speaking on the development in a post on his X handle on Wednesday, Saraki argued that the people have sent a message to the government that it has not made any significant, positive impact on their lives after 64 months in office.

The ex-governor maintained that the people mobilised themselves to the polling units for Saturday’s local government election but met the absence of electoral officials and shoddy preparations by the electoral body.

He, therefore, hailed the people for standing firm against what he described as deliberately concocted frustrations.

He wrote, “Last Saturday, in a manner that went beyond partisan consideration and gave expression to the protection of community interests, people from Kwara mobilised themselves to the polling units and met the absence of electoral officials and shoddy preparations by the electoral body.

“Whatever results the electoral body eventually declared, our people have sent a clear signal to a government that has not made any significant, positive impact on their lives after 64 months in office. It is a shame that the 16 local government areas now have chairmen and councilors who would be in office without legitimacy and people’s mandate.”

  • APC N/Central Forum to appeal High Court judgment on Ganduje’s removal

The North Central All Progressives Congress, APC Forum, has reacted to Monday’s ruling by a Federal High Court in Abuja, which dismissed their suit seeking the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the Party.

The Forum said it would appeal the judgment saying its lawyer has been instructed to file an appeal.

Recall that the Forum had sued Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) asking for the nullification of the appointment of Ganduje as the National Chairman of the Party saying it is a violation of the Party’s constitution 2022 as amended as well as the zoning arrangement for the Party for the Chairmanship position to be from North Central and not the North West region where Ganduje comes from.

Also, the forum claimed that the appointment of Ganduje breached Article 13 of the APC Constitution because it was not done through a democratic process enshrined in the Party’s law.

In his Monday judgment, Justice Inyang Ekwo dismissed the suit, saying the Forum is not a juristic person and not registered in law and that it has no legal power to file the suit.

Ekwo stated the Forum failed to explore the internal mechanism for peaceful resolution of issues before rushing to the court, adding that the appointment of officers for APC by its National Executive Committee is an internal affair of the party that no court can dabble into.

However, the Chairman of the Forum, Saleh Zazzaga, said, “We will appeal the judgment, our lawyer has already been instructed to file the appeal. One vital thing we are seeking from the court is the interpretation of the Party 2022 constitution as amended and the zoning arrangement, but that wasn’t done.

“The earlier the President and the Party know that Ganduje’s remaining in office is retrogression for the Party and will incur legal liabilities for the Party, the better. We believe that the Party will not want to trade the whole of the North Central region for Ganduje. So the needful should be done fast. That is all I can say to that.”

Eight Demands Of North Central Indigenes To President Tinubu

Indigenes of the six states of the North Central region have presented an Eight-item demand to President Bola Tinubu.
The demands were collected and presented by the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement (North Central) to the President, Abiodun Essiet.
Essiet said the 8 items were the common feedback she received from her listening tour across the Six North central states.
While she has covered five states, except the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Essiet stated that the uniform demands include constitutional recognition of traditional rulers’ roles, establishment of state police and a demand for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be responsible for local government areas elections.
On her X handle on Monday, she wrote: “The lack of any Constitutional roles for the Traditional Rulers
“State Government and Local Government Allocations and other Federal Government incentives to the State should be made available to the public to enforce accountability and transparency on the people at the helm of affairs at those levels of governance.
“Need for the Federal Government to establish State Police without further delay for better community policing.
“INEC be saddled with the responsibility of conducting the Local Government Election now that they have been given their full autonomy by the Federal Government with direct allocation of Funds.
“The return of the Price Control Marketing Board as was in the years past during the Military Regime, to curb the monopoly of the price of commodities by the marketers at will.
“Retirees should be included in the minimum wage proposal of the Federal Government and also Senior Citizens should be considered in their welfare plans.
“Citizens should be sensitized about the new policy before implementation
“The need for the Federal Government to embark on Digital means of monitoring palliative distribution.”
  • Edo Poll: ‘I weep for Nigeria’s Democracy’ — Fintiri says

Edo Poll: ‘I weep for Nigeria’s Democracy’ — Fintiri says

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, himself a survivor of a rigged election,  has described the recently concluded Edo State gubernatorial election as shameful.
Fintiri in a statement disclosed that the All Progressives Congress in Edo State had allegedly attempted to discredit him by falsely claiming he announced the result of the poll.
The statement read, “I weep for Nigeria’s democracy after witnessing the shameful Edo Gubernatorial poll. The APC’s desperate attempts to discredit me by falsely claiming I announced results won’t distract from the real issue.
“What’s truly shameful is APC’s national chairman flying into Edo with a private jet on election day, defying movement restrictions, while their governors used armoured escorts to intimidate voters.
“This blatant disregard for democratic norms is the real brigandage. Nigerians are outraged, slamming INEC for compromising and favoring APC.
“We must condemn this rape of democracy and demand accountability. The world is watching, and Nigeria deserves better,” Fintiri said.
  • Gov Umo Eno Speaks On Dumping PDP

Gov Umo Eno Speaks On Dumping PDP

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has stated categorically that he is not attempting to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Eno clarified this while addressing the circulating rumours due to his bond with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Rumours were flying about that Eno was planning to withdraw his PDP membership to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, during a media interaction in Uyo, which coincided with the 37th-anniversary celebrations of Akwa Ibom State over the weekend, Governor Eno urged the public to distinguish between political party matters and governance issues.
The PDP chieftain maintained his respect for Akpabio as Senate President and their joint efforts to foster development in the state.
Governor Eno highlighted the advantage of having the Senate President as a prominent national figure, affirming his commitment to leveraging this position for the benefit of Akwa Ibom State.
He said: “The first thing we get from building this relationship is the peace we are all enjoying. Maybe that’s why some people feel that I am neither here nor there.
“I am a PDP person, I am working for PDP, and as a state, we will continue to support the party. But we must differentiate between party issues and governance issues.
“We are going for election now, and I am working for my party, the PDP and we are campaigning, and we will win. Some people have accused me of my body language.
“I don’t have body language, you misread me. There is no body language. I am working for the PDP, and we have shown the people that we can be trusted.
“There is no local government that we are not doing something in this state, and there is no comparison.
“I want voters to be the ones to decide; compare what is done to what you are seeing and look at what is left.”
