In a joint operation with Vigilante Groups, the Nigerian Army successfully destroyed camps belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Anambra.

The operation, carried out by troops of the 302 Regiment under the 82 Division, targeted the communities of Oroma and Umuewelum Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the operation in a statement released in Abuja on Monday.

The raid aimed to curb the illicit activities of the fighters in the region and ensure peace and security in the South East of Nigeria.

During the operation, the troops seized significant items, including one AK-47 Rifle, one AKMS Rifle, three Lexus SUVs, and two Motorcycles. Additionally, eight suspects were arrested for their involvement in the unlawful activities.

In a separate operation, the troops also conducted a raid at an IPOB camp in Mmiata Anam, Anambra South.

During the encounter, one IPOB fighter was neutralized, while another was apprehended alive. The troops recovered one AK-47 Rifle, one dane gun, and police uniforms from the camp.

The successful raids represent the continued efforts of the Nigerian security forces to address the challenges posed by the proscribed groups in the region and maintain law and order.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to enjoin all law-abiding citizens and particularly the good and enterprising people of the South East to continue to support and cooperate with the troops and other security agencies in their effort to end the menace bedeviling the region,” he said.
