Labour Party Denies Allegations of Partnership with Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Labour Party has dismissed allegations of collusion with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, labeling the claims as baseless and defamatory.

In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party expressed concern over a circulating video in which lawyer Deji Adeyanju made claims of a supposed partnership between the Labour Party and the APC.

The party described the accusations as unfounded and harmful to its reputation.

According to the Labour Party, the allegations contradict its role as the leading opposition in Nigeria, with its National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, consistently criticizing the current administration.

The party emphasized its ongoing efforts to challenge systemic failures and advocate for electoral reforms.

Recent initiatives spearheaded by the Labour Party include the establishment of an Electoral Reform Committee to promote credible elections and a Political Education Committee aimed at fostering political awareness among Nigerians.

Additionally, the party has launched an e-membership registration drive to enhance participatory democracy, with thousands of Nigerians already joining.

The party challenged Adeyanju to substantiate his claims with evidence or withdraw his statements and issue a public apology.

It described the comments as a “criminal defamation” and a deliberate attempt to damage the party’s reputation.

The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to holding the government accountable and denied any collaboration with President Tinubu or the APC, urging its supporters to disregard the rumors.

  • Presidency Accuses Obasanjo of Weakening Nigeria’s Democracy

Presidency Accuses Obasanjo of Weakening Nigeria’s Democracy

The presidency has attributed Nigeria’s prolonged democratic challenges to the leadership of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, claiming that his administration left a legacy of poor governance and unresolved crises.

This position was made clear by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Public Communication and Orientation, who accused Obasanjo of undermining democratic values during his tenure.

Dare argued that Obasanjo’s time in office was riddled with leadership failures, pointing to the infamous $16 billion spent on the power sector without tangible results.

He also highlighted Obasanjo’s failed attempt to amend the constitution for a third term, describing it as a reckless move that weakened democratic institutions.

He insisted that Obasanjo’s critiques of the current administration lack credibility, suggesting that the former president should focus on acknowledging his role in the nation’s problems.

According to Dare, Obasanjo’s leadership failed to establish the foundational infrastructure necessary for Nigeria’s progress.

The Tinubu administration, he stated, is working to repair the damage caused by past governments and is fully committed to its “Renewed Hope” agenda.

Despite criticisms, Dare assured Nigerians that President Tinubu remains focused on delivering economic reforms and alleviating the hardships faced by citizens.

Obasanjo’s recent remarks at an international forum, where he allegedly questioned the current government’s performance, were dismissed as insincere and misleading.

Dare described such comments as attempts to distort historical facts, emphasizing that Tinubu’s government is determined to chart a new course for the nation.

The presidency called on Obasanjo to take responsibility for his tenure’s shortcomings, while urging him to support ongoing efforts to rebuild the nation.

Rivers APC Chairman Refutes Claims of Wike’s Health Issues

Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Committee, has dismissed rumors suggesting that Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is unwell.

Okocha, who is a close ally of Wike, addressed the speculations in an exclusive interview, following a media briefing on recent developments within the state’s APC and the court’s ruling blocking federal allocation access to Rivers.

These rumours surfaced after Wike appeared on national television, looking frail while responding to an allegation from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Social media users expressed concern over Wike’s appearance, questioning whether his weight loss indicated a hidden illness.

Some even suggested he should step back from his political duties to focus on his health.

Okocha noted that it is normal for individuals, especially those in demanding positions like Wike’s, to face criticism regarding their physical appearance, but he assured that Wike is neither sick nor struggling with any health issues.
